THOUSANDS OF AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL SUPPORTERS AROUND THE WORLD DEMANDS JUSTICE FOR GEORGE FLOYD

Dear Reader

“I can’t breathe” were the words George Floyd spoke with his hands handcuffed behind his back, while a police officer kneeled directly on his neck – Refusing to move for more than seven minutes.

When the police officer finally removed his knee from George’s neck, George was unresponsive. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Earlier, a grocery clerk had called the police thinking George had tried to use a fake $20 bill in the store. That phone call proved to be fatal when the police arrived.

George Floyd should be alive today.

The officers involved in George’s death have been fired from their jobs – but that’s not justice. George’s family and friends are calling for all those responsible to be held accountable and for guarantees that this will not happen again.

Please join them, and thousands of Amnesty supporters around the world, and demand justice for George now.

The use of unnecessary, excessive, and unlawful force by the police is deeply disturbing and shall not be tolerated – we must stand against it immediately wherever we see it. No one should fear for their lives when interacting with officials sworn to protect us.

In solidarity,
Mario Alvarado
Regional Digital Campaigner, Amnesty International Americas
